Lincoln Park & Garrison Green....
For those who live and work in Lincoln Park, it was a virtually unexplored part of the Calgary Landscape. Those who took a chance in moving to the area in 1999 and 2000 were truly pioneers of some sort....taking a chance on an area that had very little in the way of amenities, shops, services and restaurants. That has paid off for the residents of Lincoln Park. Now, current and future residents alike can enjoy the sights and sounds of an up and coming neighbourhood that includes 5 currently built condominiums; with others on the way, a vibrant business community including car dealerships, real estate and financial offices, dentists, clothing stores, restaurants, Tim Horton’s, a fine educational facility ( Mount Royal College), and the very popular Calgary Farmer’s Market, just to name a handful.
Residents will also find nestled into the mix, a variety of single family dwellings ranging from the refurbished barracks housing to high end executive and family homes. Now is the time to invest in this blossoming neighbourhood!
History
A very short bus ride or car commute to downtown, Lincoln Park has some interesting history as it is adjacent to the land of the CFB Currie Barracks and, at one time, housed the married personnel of the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1964 RCAF Lincoln Park was closed. The hangar buildings north of the airfield that were located in the south portion of the Currie Barracks and the Lincoln Park PMQs were transferred to the Army as part of the Currie Barracks. The airfield was then transferred to the province and is now occupied by Mount Royal College. The south hangars were transferred to the city and are now leased to ATCO and other developments. Remaining lands are now occupied by housing, schools and businesses. In 1998, the Federal Government announced plans to close CFB Calgary and move all remaining battalions to Edmonton.
There are exciting changes occuring all the time in Lincoln Park and Garrison Green, including further development, green spaces, bike and walking paths, further residential, treed areas and boulevards while placing emphasis on the retention of designated and potential heritage sites.
Come and be a part of this vibrant community in the making!
